No one person can write the story of the South. There are, to quote one of Salvation South’s frequent contributors, Alabama novelist Charles McNair, “ten thousand Souths.” A true picture of the South only emerges as each writer contributes their own story to the narrative, each one like a square in a quilt. 

Writing Your South is a quarterly series of online events where Salvation South invites acclaimed Southern authors to share how they write the South as they see it—for a limited audience. 

On August 14, the award-winning Alabama poet Jacqueline Allen Trimble will host the next session of Writing Your South.

Dr. Jacqueline Allen Trimble is a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellow, a Cave Canem Fellow, and a two-time Alabama State Council on the Arts Fellow. Her first collection, , won the Balcones Poetry Prize, and her latest collection, , was named one of the ten best poetry books of 2022 by the New York Public Library. Her work has appeared in Poetry, The Offing, The Rumpus, Poet Lore, and other journals and has been featured by the Poetry Foundation and Poetry Daily. Trimble is a professor of English and chairs the Department of Languages and Literatures at Alabama State University in Montgomery.

Jackie will join Salvation South poetry editor Andy Fogle and editor-in-chief Chuck Reece in an eye-opening conversation about how she writes poetry that forcefully and fiercely lays out her own views of the South.
